Privacy Policy

Last updated: January 1, 2025

Welcome to FileConvert ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency about how our service operates. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

1. Overview — Zero-Server Architecture

FileConvert is a client-side file conversion tool. This means that all file processing happens entirely within your web browser on your device. Your files are never uploaded to, stored on, or transmitted to any server owned or operated by FileConvert. We have no access to the files you convert using our tool, and we technically cannot access them even if we wanted to. This zero-server architecture is a core design principle of our service.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information We Do NOT Collect

We want to be absolutely clear about what we do not collect:

  • Your files (images, documents, or any other data you convert)
  • The contents of your uploaded files
  • Metadata from your files (EXIF data, GPS coordinates, timestamps, camera information)
  • Any personally identifiable information unless you voluntarily provide it (e.g., via our contact form)

2.2 Automatically Collected Information

Like most websites, we may automatically collect certain non-personal information when you visit our site:

  • Browser type and version
  • Operating system
  • Pages visited and time spent on our site
  • Referring website or URL
  • IP address (processed and anonymized by our analytics provider)
  • Screen resolution and device type

This information is used solely for the purpose of improving our website and does not identify you personally.

3. How File Conversion Works

When you use FileConvert to convert a file, the following happens entirely on your device:

  1. You select or drag a file into the conversion area on our webpage.
  2. Your browser reads the file from your device's local storage into memory.
  3. JavaScript code running in your browser processes and converts the file using client-side APIs (HTML5 Canvas, pdf-lib, or heic2any).
  4. The converted file is generated in your browser's memory and offered as a download.
  5. The file is saved directly to your device's filesystem via the browser's download mechanism.

At no point during this process is your file transmitted over the internet or stored on any server. The conversion happens entirely within your browser's JavaScript runtime and memory. Once the conversion is complete and the file is downloaded, all temporary data is removed from memory.

4. Google AdSense and Advertising

We use Google AdSense to display advertisements on our website. Google AdSense uses cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to our website or other websites on the internet.

Google's use of the DART cookie enables it to serve ads to our users based on their visit to our site and other sites on the internet. Users may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google advertising privacy and content network privacy policy.

4.2 Third-Party Vendor Cookies

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to your website or other websites on the internet. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect the non-personal information we collect. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
